Russia: Explosion spread in the military base, five killed

Five nuclear scientists were killed on Thursday during a test of equipment at a military base in the northern region of Russia. The blast injured six Defense Ministry employees and developers. According to the Ministry of Defense, due to the explosion, there is also nuclear radiation, which is being taken to prevent it. The country’s nuclear company Rostacom gave this information on Saturday. Rostacom said the incident occurred during the test run of a liquid propellant rocket engine in Nyo Noskaf on Thursday.

The company told the media that their engineering and technical team was working on the isotope power source for the propulsion system. The Ministry of Defense says that the level of radiation is normal but its level was reported higher in the city of Severodvinsk. In view of the radiation, local people were urged to take precautions. This is the second time such an incident within a week. Earlier, a fire broke out at an OD in Siberia on Monday. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. Rosatom has expressed condolences to the families of the employees who were victims of the accident.
