Women in Pakistan are often taken as payment for a debt, to settle disputes, or as revenge if a landowner wants to punish a worker.
As you can see in the video below the parents of a 6-year-old girl in Pakistan’s Swat Valley say tribal authorities are forcing them to marry off their daughter to resolve a family feud.
Child marriage is still practiced all over the Arab-Muslim world in countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc.
An estimated 12 million girls under 18 are married each year. Girls who marry before they turn 18 are less likely to remain in school and more likely to experience domestic violence. Everything possible must be done to protect these vulnerable children.
Under Sharia law girls can marry at the age of 6, just like the Prophet Muhammad from the Koran did when he married Aisha. Muhammad consummated his marriage with Aisha when she was nine.
