Let me tell you that a few days ago, the case of treason against Honeypreet and 39 others was lifted. After which he was granted bail by the court today. Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Sandhir removed sections 121 and 121A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused. Defense counsel Suresh Rohilla told ANI, however, that Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja and others would be tried under IPC sections 145, 146, 150, 152 and 120B, among other charges.
The case will now be heard in the main judicial magistrate court. The counsel said “the accused have not committed any offense of treason and conspiracy, the court appreciated our arguments and the charges against 40 accused, but dropped the charges under sections 121 and 121A”.
Honeypreet was charged with criminal conspiracy and treason for inciting violence in Panchkula on August 25, 2017, after convicting Dera chief Sacha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in several rape cases. In September this year, his bail plea was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja is the adopted daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief. He was arrested on October 3, 2018, and is currently lodged in Ambala Central Jail. More than 41 people were killed in the clashes.
