The incident comes hours after an angry mob descended on the Shaheen Bagh in a bid to get the road cleared. On Sunday morning, a large group of locals and protesters gathered around the Shaheen Bagh sit-in protest site demanding the protesters to vacate the jammed road. The protesters also raised slogans of Vande Mataram and the provocative “desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro s****n ko”.
Delhi Police detained some of the protesters who were agitating against the Shaheen Bagh protest and moved them to a different location.
This is the fourth incident of provocation in the past one week in the Jamia-Shaheen Bagh area. A teenager, on January 30, fired at a group protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) outside the Jamia Millia Islamia University, injuring a student.
The attacker was later detained by the police.
Two days later, a gunman opened fire at Shaheen Bagh, which has emerged as the epicentre of anti-CAA protests and where hundreds have been staging a sit-in for almost two months now.
