The good old ginger or adrak is a favourite in Indian households, whether we use it in our chai or the food we eat. Not only does it impress us with its sharp flavour, but it also has a range of health benefits that make it a coveted nuskha for so many ailments. From helping with digestion to enhancing immunity, ginger is a superhero all the way. However, not many know that this ingredient can also work wonders for your skin and hair.

1. Ginger helps to even out your skin tone

Say goodbye to those fancy skin lightening creams for scars, because it’s ginger that will help you out the most. It is packed with the antioxidant gingerol that can fight free radicals, thereby giving you an even tone and glowing skin.

Here’s what you need to do: Crush some ginger and mix it with lemon juice. Apply this mixture on your face, especially on areas that have dark spots. Let it dry for sometime, after which you can rinse it with water. Ginger, when it comes in contact with lemon juice, helps with collagen production, which can heal scars. It also helps with fighting the signs of sun damage.

2. Ginger helps to deal with hair loss and frizziness

As we mentioned earlier, ginger is loaded with nutrients. And with its bounty of minerals, vitamins and fatty acids, it’s great to strengthen your hair and increase circulation to the scalp, which is essential for your tresses to grow long and thick.

Here’s what you need to do: Take some ginger pieces in a blender, and add 3-4 pieces of aloe vera into it. Aloe vera contains proteolytic enzymes, which work as a perfect conditioner for your hair. Blend the two together until they form a smooth paste. Apply this mixture all over your hair and scalp, and let it stay on for an hour, before washing it off.

3. Ginger can give you glow skin

Ginger can really help you get the skin of your dreams. It not only gives you healthy and glowing skin, but can also tighten it and fight the various signs of ageing.

Here’s what you need to do: Take 1 teaspoon of ginger juice and mix it with 1 teaspoon of rosewater, 1/2 a teaspoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon of oats powder. Mix it well and apply this paste evenly on your face and neck, and let it stay on for 20 minutes. Rinse it thereafter.

4. Ginger can help with acne control

If you are struggling with frequent breakouts, then it’s time to add ginger to your skincare routine. Its anti-inflammatory properties can fight all kinds of infection, and make your skin healthy and clean.

Here’s what you need to do: Take 1 teaspoon of charcoal powder, 1/2 a teaspoon of ginger juice, 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel and 1 teaspoon of honey. Mix all the ingredients properly and apply it all over your face and neck. Let it stay on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with water.

5. Ginger for soft and lustrous hair

Here’s what you need to do: Use ginger oil to massage your hair, but don’t use it as it is! Mix it with a carrier oil and then massage this oil blend into your scalp and hair. Rinse it with a good shampoo, after keeping it on for an hour.
