5 Most Haunted Places in India To Visit:

1. Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan

It’s not unusual that an old fort bearing the ruins of the past is considered haunted because they are always surrounded by multiple tales and myths of locals. One such fort is the Bhangarh Fort in Rajasthan. It is referred to as the most haunted place in Asia.

It is collectively called by the locals to be a haunted site. The fort is situated at a height similar to many other Forts. Also, it is a ruined structure with large open spaces. Although, you need to climb up to have a clear view of the view.

There are tales that this place was cursed by a hermit named Guru Balu Nath. He used to meditate here. However, the king was adamant about building a fort here. So, after several instances, the whole village was cursed.

A Horror film titled Bhaangarh was released in 2014. It was based on this fort as directed by Dilip Sood.

2. Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan

Kuldhara Village is often known as the Ghost town of Rajasthan. It’s considered haunted because one night in 1825, suddenly all the people in the village vanished in the darkness of the night. Not just this village, but even the people from 83 villages were untraceable the next morning.

There is a legend around this place. It describes that there was an evil Prime Minister named Salim Singh in the Past. He was adamant about marrying the daughter of the village head. He made the announcement for it irrespective of her consent.

He threatened the villagers that they would have to face dire atrocities if they didn’t fulfil his desire. Rather than agreeing to his demand, a meeting was held and the people of these villages left and vanished. Also, they put a curse on this place

After that to date, the village lies barren. If anyone tried to occupy this place they were chased away by something unusual. But, many people cite other reasons like lack of water and the atrocities of Salim Singh. The wells in this place dried up by 1815.

The place is open to visit during the Day. However, due to the legends, the place is closed after sunset.

3. Jatinga, Assam

Have you ever heard of the Mass Suicide of Birds? No, we are not talking about some fictional horror film. It’s exactly what happens in the small tribal village of Jatinga. It is a hill station in Assam that drew attention for something weird. Countless birds have committed suicide at this place.

Scientists and researchers have been trying to find out a reason behind it, but haven’t been successful. This phenomenon is particularly seen between September to November. In these months, there is intense rainfall and cloudy weather.

These birds fly at a high speed without a reason. Further, they crash their heads into trees or other structures leading to their death that has no explanation causing a haunted perception.

4. Dumas Beach

After Forts and Villages, the next place that is more likely to be considered haunted is a Beach. Again, it’s not a film plot. Rather, a reality that comes into life with Dumas Beach.

It is a relatively rural beach in the Arabian Sea. The place falls 21 kilometres southwest of the city of Surat which is otherwise a tourist destination. However, there is a mystery around it.

Firstly, the Beach has a black Sand. Secondly, it’s said that the beach earlier served as a Hindu burial ground. Consequently, it is possessed by spirits that have stayed behind in this place.

Many people believe that the black sand is the ashes of dead people that got mixed with the golden sand.

5. Agrasen Ki Baoli

Another monument that has turned into a Site of Haunted Mysteries is Agrasen Ki Baoli (Step Well). There is no information from History as to who built this structure. It is 60 m long and 15 m wide. So, it’s an exceptionally narrow structure.

The Step Well was previously filled with black water. However, it has dried up at present. A popular legend says that often people are attracted to the water of the well. Later, they felt that they were being drowned. It seemed like the water attracted them to submerge their bodies.

Moreover, there have been multiple suicide reports at this Well in the past. Some people mention that the Black Water had some kind of magic that attracted people to attempt suicide. There is a belief that whenever someone commits suicide here, the level of water rises.
