INX Media Case: Former Union Finance and Home Minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram is under threat of arrest after the Delhi High Court rejected the anticipatory bail plea and no relief from the Supreme Court. Both the CBI and ED investigating agencies are looking for him to be arrested. The team that arrived at his house on Tuesday could not arrest him, while on Wednesday morning, the CBI team reached his house.
The investigating agency reached his home in Delhi on Tuesday evening, but Chidambaram was not found. The investigative agencies will try to arrest them by late night or Wednesday morning so that the justification for hearing against the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court is baseless. Arriving at his home late at night, the CBI team pasted the notice and directed him to appear in two hours.
On Tuesday, Chidambaram tried to get relief from the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court’s decision, but it was late and the hearing of the case was adjourned till Wednesday. At the same time, Chidambaram’s lawyer AS Khurana said that the notice has been placed outside the house by the CBI. He said that we are striving for anticipatory bail, subject to the law. We are working according to the law.
The High Court made these remarks while dismissing the anticipatory bail application by the High Court Judge Sunil Gaur in its judgment that prima facie evidence from the case shows that the petitioner is Chidambaram Kingpin (the main conspirator). After considering the facts, I was moved for the decision of not granting bail to the petitioner before his arrest. This is a classic case of money laundering.
It is very important to interrogate Chidambaram in custody for effective investigation. If the accused is granted bail in such a case, it will send a wrong message in the society. Chidambaram’s lawyer Kapil Sibal said that the case will be mentored to get relief from the Supreme Court at 10.30 am on Wednesday.
Both the CBI and ED wanted to interrogate P. Chidambaram in custody for taking a bribe in lieu of granting FIPB clearance to INX Media, which had rejected the anticipatory bail on the basis of strong evidence from the CBI and ED. But to avoid arrest, he had taken anticipatory bail from the lower court. But after Indrani Mukherjee became an official witness, the interrogation agencies had made an appeal in the High Court against the verdict of the lower court on the interrogation with strong evidence. The High Court not only rejected Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail but also turned down the demand for a three-day extension to appeal to the Supreme Court. Chidambaram tried to avoid the possibility of imminent arrest, but could not get relief on Tuesday.
